Frequently
Asked Questions

There is an enormous amount of data out there that captures how we move through the world and why we choose one form of transportation over another. However much of it is obfuscated in esoteric formats that require sophisticated technical knowledge to access and understand. We are passionate about and committed to making that data as accessible as possible so that it can inform and empower advocacy for safer streets.

There will always be loud voices in the room demanding to preserve car dominance and the status quo. We're here to empower you with honest, easy to understand maps & data visualizations that will help you and your elected officials fight for safer streets.

Thank you for your support.

This is amazing! How can I help?
We're thrilled you appreciate our work! Aside from funding a map, we are always looking to collaborate with fellow designers and academics who can help us procure and analyze the data we use to build these maps. If that is you, please get in touch. We are also looking for help raising money to continue this work via grant writing and pursuing philanthropy channels. If you have experience fundraising for safe streets advocacy or non-profits, we'd love to hear from you.
What happens after I fund a map?
Your support will be acknowledged on both the map's funding page and the map itself once it goes live, unless you check "make my donation anonymous" during the funding process. Your map will have a widget in the bottom left corner acknowledging the supporters who made that map possible. You can see what it looks like on the San Francisco Car Ownership Map.
What happens if a map I fund doesn't meet its goal?
There is a very good chance the map will be built anyway, especially if a significant number of people have expressed interest in it. Maps that receive the most interest & funding will be prioritized. If you would like your donation to be allocated to a different map, please contact us. Please note, all donations are non-refundable.
Can I make an anonymous donation?
Absolutely. Just check the "make my donation anonymous" box on the funding page and we won't attribute you as a sponser when the map your funding goes live. Please note, we still need your full name and email to process your donation through Stripe.
Are you available for contract work?
Yes! Send us a message, we're happy to help you brainstorm and discuss whatever is on your mind.
